This course equips students with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to operate and manage aquaculture hatcheries effectively. As hatcheries play a critical role in producing healthy, high-quality seed for the aquaculture industry, the module focuses on developing the competencies needed to ensure smooth and efficient hatchery operations.

Students will learn key aspects of hatchery management, including broodstock handling, breeding techniques, spawning and hatching processes, larval rearing, nursery operations, and harvesting. The course also places strong emphasis on water quality management, legal and environmental requirements, and the operation, calibration, and maintenance of hatchery equipment and tools.

Through a combination of lectures, practical sessions, and field visits, students will gain hands-on experience in routine hatchery procedures and basic troubleshooting. By the end of the course, they will be able to design small-scale hatcheries, maintain optimal water quality, and apply correct operational practices, preparing them for technical or supervisory roles in the aquaculture sector.
